This Broccoli and Cheese Soup is perfect on a cold day, or when you just want something soothing and warm. It uses Greek yogurt and fresh broccili and because it heats up in the blender, you’ll save yourself time (and dishes)!
I’m a goal setter. Creating to do lists is one of my pastimes. Eric laughs at me, but I’ve recently caught him giving it a try. I don’t know how’d I’d keep up with it all unless I had my long list of tasks and iPhone calendar. Who’s with me?
To be honest, I’ve been putting off writing this post mostly because I’ve been swamped and utterly exhausted since the past week but partially because I think I might tick some people off. But oh well, it’s my blog…right?
When Jan 1 rolls around the talk on everyone’s lips is “resolutions”. And the sound of it makes me cringe. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great to evaluate your life and how you want to improve to become a better person, and I’m all about setting goals… I’ve already told you that.
I think what bothers me the most about resolutions is we go about them the wrong way. We are unrealistic and dream up lofty resolutions that are nearly impossible to attain. We want quick fixes and aren’t willing to get uncomfortable enough to create change. That’s why about this time most people have already fallen off the wagon and feel discouraged, depressed, and shameful. Which is a breeding ground for complacency and idleness.
But goals are different than resolutions. Goals are specific and realistic. They can be measured and have a deadline. Setting goals also allows for mess ups, failures, set backs. Because without grace a goal is destined to fail. You will have something that sets you back and gets in your way, so allow yourself to screw up so that you can be that much better the next day. Goals are not about being perfect, but about learning yourself and finding ways to overcome and becoming stronger every day.
Let’s get real and stop setting resolutions, together.
I write specific goals for myself and divide them into categories (financial, spiritual, health/fitness, personal, professional). The main overarching theme with my goals this year is routine. It’s about forming good habits and shaping discipline in many areas of my life.
Are you a list maker? Do you have written goals?

I don't like New Years resolutions. I do create lists, but do it year round.
Soup looks great. I've never made broccoli soup using yogurt. It looks nice. Will have to try it out. It probably has a nice tang to it.

I totally agree with the year around approach and continuously evaluating progress and troubleshooting any barriers! Hope you like the soup 🙂

I completely agree with you! I've never been a big NYR person, but this year I decide to make a list of things I'd like to focus on and then each month I'll set mini-goals under that category. I know I need to get better at creating more specific goals, so I'm hoping this approach works for me. Also – soup sounds delicious!

mini goals rock!
@CarleneRD says
Not a fan of NYR's either but obsessed with goals! Have you heard of 101 in 1001? Basically 101 goals to accomplish in 1001 days. And they can be anything, like you mentioned above!
Love & Zest says
No I haven't heard of the 101 goals yet…but so cool! I'll have to consider doing something like that! Neat.

I didn't want the post to come out sounding snobby or to crush anyone's dreams but I think we need to be more realistic and allow ourselves to mess up so that we can truly live a healthy lifestyle and reach our goals!

Making to-do lists is one of my favorite things, too…though one of my goals for 2014 is to let go a little bit and stop trying to be in control 100% of the time!
I love your soup bowls, where are they from?
