It’s been a whirlwind of a week over here, and ready for life to be back to normal and have a slow weekend home. But not just yet— I’m giving a presentation today at the Dragonboat Festival in Sarasota for Breast Cancer Survivors and catching a plane to Auburn, AL for the football game this weekend vs. South Carolina. I had so much fun at FNCE this week that I wanted to be sure to share with you some of my favorite finds— lots of 2015 trend spotting and new foods to get excited about.
siggi’s Pumpkin Spice Icelandic Style Cream-Skyr. OMG. siggi’s is my new love, and they are at the top of my favorites list from the expo. I sampled many of the flavors and I have never tasted such a creamy yogurt, super high protein, simple ingredients, and minimal calories. Each container contains more protein than sugar which isn’t very common in the yogurt isle these days (remember some of the sugars are naturally occurring in the yogurt from lactose). It doesn’t get more decadent yet clean than siggi’s. I also got to meet the owner, Siggi himself, and he’s a SUPER duper cool dude.
Nourish Snacks. Not only are Nourish Snacks tasty, they have the cutest names!! My absolute fav flavor is “Monkey Love” a banana chocolate mix. I also loved Mr. Popular— it’s half popped pop corn, and the ingredient list is simple {non GMO corn, oil, salt} one bag is loaded with 5g fiber. WIN! My favorite part about these snack is they were designed by an RD colleague and media icon, Joy Bauer. Not only is she super talented and adorable, she is genuine & giving to her core; I know this full well because she gladly allowed me to interview her for the Ballet article I wrote. Right now you can find these snacks online, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are on shelves at Whole Foods or similar markets soon.
Cook Simple Meals. Each Cook Simple Meal contains whole foods and a clean and simple ingredient list. I seriously couldn’t believe how “homemade” tasting and filling that these packaged meals were. These meals were created after the owner begun taking ownership of his health, lost 40 pounds and experienced how healthy food could be delicious and improve quality of life. They are all veggie friendly, and if you’d like to up the protein content it would be easy to toss in ground beef or turkey. I tasted their Cowboy Chili with Quinoa & Cinnamon and the Lentil Sloppy Joe’s.
Bare Fruit Cinnamon Apple Chips. You won’t believe it but little babies have 2 simple ingredients: cinnamon and apples. The perfect blend of crunch and sweet each single serve bag of Bare Snacks Apple Chips clocks in at 50 calories, 14g carbs and 2g fiber. Fair warning: They are VERY addicting. They have Sweet & Heat Coconut Chips in their line up— which are like holy whoa and would be ahhhhmazing on salads, albeit they do contain some added sugars, I still downed a few samples.
Bob’s Red Mill Orca Beans. Orka Beans are apparently going to be the next big thing for 2015, and I fully support this trend as we all could likely use a little more beans in our life. I don’t know about you, but when I eat more beans during the week my body feels more energized! These beans are super magical— grown only in the Pacific Northwest and 1/4 cup packs 10g of protein and 17g fiber!! Talk about improved digestion… and a good reminder to drink more water when increasing fiber in the diet.
I know it’s barely Halloween, but I don’t know if it can ever be too early for foodspotting. Do you have any predictions?
