Grab a mug of Mulled Tart Cherry Apple Cider this holiday season. A traditional warm apple cider infused with Montmorency tart cherries… it’s easy to prepare and a festive way to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Thanks to the Cherry Marketing Institute for sponsoring this post. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, and it makes me all giddy inside. I usually like to start the holidays early by decorating my house to get me in the spirit of the season, plus with all the work that goes into putting up decorations they get to stay up longer! I’m already blasting Christmas music, and the baby seems to love it. Yep, sleigh bells are jingling as I write this post. Thanks Pandora. Every other Thanksgiving we go up to my aunt’s house in Alabama for a big family ... View Post

Interview with Kimberly Sturgis from Clothed in Strength
Today I have a fun fitness and fashion post to share with you. I'm so excited that my dear friend Kimberly has launched her new business, Clothed in Strength and has agreed to an interview to tell us all about her new fitness company and workout tanks. Kimberly and I grew up together going to the same church and school, and her family is like family to ours. Her new fitness tanks are hot off the press and she kindly sent me one to wear. I must say, I love how soft these tanks are... like the softest workout tank I own. The fit, color and message are awesome too... it's an all around high quality tank. Thanks Kimberly doing this interview on the blog today. How do you describe your food and fitness philosophy? From my competitive sports background and cheering ... View Post
Peach Parfaits
These fresh parfaits are bursting with the season's finest: peaches. Make these Peach Parfaits in advance for a quick weekday breakfast or snack. Eric and I landed in DC this morning and I wanted to pop into share a quick breakfast recipe that I've been enjoying all week. I meal prepped these Peach Parfaits on the weekend and they have made the most tasty, seasonal on the go breakfast. I'm thinking these may become a staple for me or at least a variety of them anyways, and as the seasons change I'll toss in different fruit to mix it up with whatever produce is in season. Mental note, these would be a convenient treat to fuel myself for breastfeeding, at least in those early months when I'm guessing I'll be running low on sleep. So tomorrow marks 28 weeks prego.. that's 7 months people. ... View Post
Grilled BBQ Chicken Naan Pizza with Tart Cherries
Fire up the grill for this BBQ Chicken Naan Pizza with Tart Cherries—it’s perfect for a summer gathering and comes together in just minutes! Big thank you to Cherry Marketing Institute for sponsoring this post. It’s been a while since I’ve shared a pizza recipe with you all, and this one requires firing up the grill (well, you can totally bake it in the oven or on your stove top grilling pan), but grilling pizza outside is 1. more fun and 2. makes one of the BEST pizzas you’ll ever put in your mouth! Plus it’s summer time; who wants to heat up the oven?! It’s grilling season! Grilling pizza makes the crust crispy and the cheese perfectly melty. I loved this take on BBQ Chicken Pizza because I used garlic Naan bread—hello flavor (and garlic breath, sorry not sorry). It doesn’t get ... View Post

Pumpkin Blender Waffles with Pumpkin Cream
These Pumpkin Blender Waffles with Pumpkin Cream boast of fall flavors and are made in the BLENDER!! They are decadent, fluffy, and pumpkiny. Don’t make them without the Pumpkin Spice Cream… it’s melt in your mouth yum yum. This body is aching from Death by Pullups yesterday at CrossFit. We did a 15 minute pull up set. The first 4 minutes we did pull-ups every 30 seconds in sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...and after that we did increasing pull ups ever minute on the minute for the remaining 11 minutes. Ouch... When you just couldn't do another pull up, crunches were the drill. So not only is my upper back/arms aching, my tummy is a bit stiff too. Soooo pumpkin blender waffles to the rescue! Do you ever feel just completely wiped out and despite your best of intentions to get up and ... View Post
Pumpkin Power: All about Pumpkin Nutrition and Healthy Recipes
PSL is back and is rearing his big head in our lives. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the orange squash and all-things-fall, but maybe we are all a little bit obsessed? Pumpkin munchkins, anyone? Pumpkin is a naturally nutrient dense food, that is until we douse it with sugar and oil...#judgmentfreezone The seasonal fall favorite is one of the best known sources of beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant (also responsible for the orange color) which is converted into vitamin A in the body. One cup of cooked pumpkin will deliver 100% of the recommend daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin A which assists in good vision, fertility, and hormone production. Pumpkin is also great to eat for lowering blood pressure and protecting overall health because it contains fiber, vitamin C, and ... View Post
Fall Race Schedule + #TrainingBites {Almond Butter Cream}
Since the marathon in Vermont this spring, my ankle has been giving me fits. I honestly didn't know if I was going to make it 26.2 miles with the pain I was experiencing leading up to the race. I took a full month off of running (June) and the past two months, I've been getting back into it... well trying. The thing is, my ankle hasn't really healed. I found out it's tendonitis, and aside from massages twice a month, I haven't done my own work. So I joined a yoga studio last week. I woke up on Sunday morning, hardly movable with my back in knots. The left side of my body is revolting. I had a quick release massage to treat my back, and found that my tight hip flexers are referring pain to my back... ugh! Then I got this cool light treatment on my ankle that identified inflammation. The ... View Post
Almond Joy Cookies
Almond Joy Cookies that taste just like the candy bar! Chewy, sweet and almondy - YUM! Eric and I spent a lovely weekend with friends in Dothan, Alabama. We grew up with Brian and Rachel and it was really neat to visit them in their new city and get some good quality time with them. It was a really active and relaxing weekend that was low key and just how we like it. On Saturday morning we went to a HIIT workout class followed up by a chilly walk on a nature trail. The scenery was beautiful, and so different from what we are familiar with in Orlando. That night afternoon Rachel and I used my basic chocolate chip cookie recipe and made Almond Joy Cookies! I have to share that we prepared these the old fashioned way, creaming the butter and sugar by hand. Yep, great ... View Post
Apple & Peanut Butter Smoothie
Apple and Peanut Butter Smoothie Start with Why by Simon Sinek has inspired my husband. Have you read it? I cannot wait to get started with this book. When he reads he keeps a log of his favorite quotes to look back and he shares some with me. Yesterday I wasn’t really feeling inspired for cooking, I didn’t know what I wanted to have for breakfast. I tried to make coconut pancakes but those were an epic fail. I cannot believe how crumbly coconut flour gets when cooked, but that’s for another post. One quote from the book that he repeats a lot is “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.” It’s like apples and peanut butter, they were made for each other and it’s the why that influenced my breakfast smoothie. Eric will put up a fight about drinking the green juice (not ... View Post
sharing recipes, life… and nutrition
Many of you know I got married the weekend after graduating from Auburn University and started my dietetic internship that summer of 2010. We were blessed with lots of gifts including a fully stocked kitchen, but I really had no idea how to use these kitchen tools to prepare and cook a meal. I started watching the food network, learned some basic cooking skills and begin to cook meals at home for the two of us. I found new recipes on the internet and in cookbooks too. And this is when I discovered food blogs, My Baking Addiction was one of the first blogs I found and was fascinated that people with my interests were sharing their recipes through blogging. My mom has my Granny's old recipe cards; they are even more beautiful with my Granny's handwriting and all of the food stains. You ... View Post
