I recently read this article in the New York Times, and I totally connected with it. It’s true, we are all inherently lazy and our goal is energy conservation.
I have to admit pushing my body doesn’t feel good, in fact it hurts. My body would like to minimize those experiences as much as possible. However if we want to get faster, stronger, and see results we must challenge ourselves and overcome our laziness.
When we run we settle into a cadence that is comfortable to us, however researchers have demonstrated that we can “trick” our bodies into pushing a harder pace by listening to fast tempo music. In fact they launched an app, Cruise Control, that finds music for your desired pace! I’ll be checking this out after tonights run.

Is it weird that it feels good to push myself?

I'm with @ElizPierce – I run most, but not all of the time with music. It really pumps me up! On race days I save my playlists for the final miles…good luck on all your races this year, Kristina!

I'm 70/30 running with music. 70% of the time I do, 30% I don't. I am a HUGE pandora runner… can't get a playlist I like. I am going to have to check out the Cruise Control app. That sounds awesome.
