Also I’ve been known to sneak a couple extra tart cherries from the bag to toss at the bottom of this salad because I HAVE TO HAVE tart cherries in every mouthful, especially the last bite. There must be a tart cherry in the last bite.
It’s like a rule now thanks to this recipe. This salad only takes a couple seconds to toss it all together, and it’s super filling, which is likely why it ranks so high up on my lunch list.

This looks amazing, but I am realllllllllly just not a fan of avocados (weird, I know). Would you mind giving the measurements you used when you made this with mayonnaise? Or any other avocado substitute? Thanks a bunch!
Kristina LaRue says
Yeah– I use about a tablespoon of mayo 🙂

Can I make this recipe the night before for lunch the next day or will the avacado brown?
Thanks
Kristina LaRue says
I typically make it same day.. but my mom makes it ahead all the time!

I love these avacado bowls! I am allergic to nuts so I traded for cucumbers chunks. What else can I substitute the nuts for?
Kristina LaRue says
Are you allergic to seeds too? You can try pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds! They are both delish in this recipe.

Hello Kristina, I have been following your blog and your recipes are fantastic. I have yet to try one that I do not enjoy! I would like to try this one but I have never bought Montmorency tart cherries. Where do you advise that I go to make it easy to find? By the way I tried powder peanut butter in my smoothies and I amazed at the calorie difference. Thanks for your health motivation!
Kristina LaRue says
Thank you Morgan for the thoughtful comment 🙂 I’ve been able to find tart cherries in most grocery stores (sometimes in produce and other stores have them w rest of dried fruit)– Trader Joes has them too!
Karen says
I would suggest that if at all possible a shopper ask to taste the dried cherries before buying them. I’ve had a few situations (even at high end grocery stores ) where the cherries taste terrible – like sulfer. As a result, I have ordered dried tart cherries from Door County, Wisconsin. There is an online site for thie cherries and I’ve never been disappointed
