Hey friends! Eric and I went out to play tennis on Sunday. It was my first time on the court in over 5 years, and needless to say I’m still sore. After playing for 10 minutes, the game was whipping me. These old familiar movements that I haven’t done in half a decade! Gosh, that makes me sound really old.
I grew up playing competitive tennis, and it’s a sport my whole family played. My brother DJ who also lives in Orlando played tennis in college at Florida Institute of Technology and my littlest bro Tyler is a freshman on the team at the University of Central Florida. DJ gives tennis lessons in Orlando so naturally, he was drilling me with a basket of balls as soon as I stepped on the court.
I’m like whoa– slow down. This lady hasn’t seen the court in years. DJ encouraged us all to be tied to the “human leash”. It’s a rope with a waist band that he ties to the fence, and he wants us to be on the baseline to lean into the ball. It was a workout just trying to stay on the baseline with that rope pulling me back. I always loved tennis drills vs actually playing a match. Check out this video of the human leash tennis drills.
Eric played too, despite his wishes to go on a long run. He still got in some cross training with suicide drills and pushups. Gotta love that guy.
Our CrossFit box is closed on Christmas Eve so Eric and I are going to go on a run before we head over to our parents house for the festivities! Wish I had some reindeer antlers for the run tomorrow.
Questions: What sport did you play growing up and do you still play? Anyone getting festive for their run tomorrow?
